How to Reverse a Contractor Schematic

Contractor blueprints and schematics generally remain the property of the contractor and any changes must be made by the contractor. As a result, changes cost money. However, with the right software or copier you can make certain changes yourself, including reversing the entire schematic. Reverse a contractor schematic by scanning it into your computer, opening it in a graphics software or in PowerPoint and clicking a few buttons. Or, simply use a copier with a reverse function.

Instructions

    • 1

Scan the schematic into your computer, or take the schematic to a commercial copy center and have them do it for you. How you save the image file determines what software is needed to reverse the image. Save the scanned image as a JPEG image or a PDF file.

    • 2

Open the JPEG image of the scanned schematic in any standard graphics program and select the “Mirror Image” option in the photo effects menu.

    • 3

Open a PDF of the schematic in PowerPoint and select “Reverse Diagram” in the diagram menu.

    • 4

Place the original schematic face down on a copier with a “reverse copy” function, close the lid over the schematic, and select the “Reverse” button. The reverse button should be labeled as such and also have two arrows depicted on it, one pointing one way and one directly beneath it pointing in the other direction. After selecting the “Reverse” button, press “Copy.”
