How to Install a Corian Seamless Coved Backsplash

Corian is a synthetic, durable material commonly molded into a variety of products, including kitchen counters and backsplashes. Manufactured by DuPont, the easy-clean surface is simple to install once it is cut to size. Corian Cove backsplashes are available in numerous colors, including light green, red, blue and gray, thereby providing homeowners a wide variety of selection. The cove backsplashes do not feature any cracks, thereby preventing moisture and dirt from collecting. Because this particular type of backsplash is a single, seamless piece, it is easier to install than those composed of several smaller pieces.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the wall in your kitchen where you want to install the backsplash. Double-check the measurements to ensure their accuracy, since the Corian Cove backsplash will arrive precut.

    • 2

Clean the surface of the wall for the backsplash to remove accumulated dirt, grime and grease. Spray an all-purpose cleaner on the wall and wipe it down with a soft sponge. If required, scrape off any stubborn stains on the wall with a paint scraper. Rinse the wall clean and leave it to dry to prepare it for maximum adhesion.

    • 3

Spread a sheet for padding on a level surface and lay the backsplash face down over it. Spread a thin layer of epoxy over the back of the backsplash, 2 inches from the edge. Repeat this step to apply another layer of epoxy near the middle, and one along the lower edge of the backsplash.

    • 4

Spread a 1/2- to 3/4-inch-thick layer of epoxy over the grooved section of the countertop where it will join the backsplash. Avoid spreading too much as it will seep out through the edges of the joint when secured.

    • 5

Center the Corian Cove seamless backsplash against the wall, with its lower edge directly above the glued groove where it meets the countertop. Lower the backsplash so it rests on the epoxy and press it against the wall. Press the backsplash into the wall so the epoxy adheres to the surface, and hold it for five to 10 minutes to establish a secure bond.

    • 6

Wipe away any epoxy around the edges of the backsplash with a wet rag. Allow the glue to dry for the time specified on its label’s directions before reinstalling the kitchen appliances.
