Extend a tape measure in a straight, horizontal line from the left to the right side of the sink’s inner rim. Measure only the undermount sink’s inner rim, not the outer, flat lip that surrounds the bowl. The sink’s lip mounts underneath the counter and remains hidden from view.
Stretch a piece of plastic wrap horizontally across the sink. Make sure the plastic is taut and hold it in place with painter's tape. On top of the plastic, horizontally lay a piece of tape on the left and right edges of the sink's inner rim. Measure the distance between the two tape edges.
Contact the undermount sink manufacturer and request a template for the sink. The template is an outline of the sink and serves as a guide when cutting the sink hole in the countertop. If the template doesn't contain the exact width, measure the width of the outline on the template with a tape measure.
