Replacing a Stove Vent That Squeaks

Kitchen vent fans suck the air up from your kitchen and move it either outside or recirculate it around your kitchen. Over time, the vent fan can get old and squeaky, not working at clearing the air in your kitchen as well. In order to fix this problem you can replace the kitchen vent fan with a new one that doesn’t squeak. The new fan will also work better at clearing the air in your kitchen, in most cases.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the power to your kitchen at the electrical box.

    • 2

Remove the vent grille from the kitchen vent, using the screwdriver to loosen the screws. Gently lower the vent grille from the vent.

    • 3

Pull the wire nuts off of the wires connecting the old fan to the electricity. Use the screwdriver to remove the fan from the brackets holding it to the wall. Lower the old fan from the vent.

Place the new vent fan into the vent. Slip the fan between the vent’s brackets and tighten the screws with the screwdriver to hold it in place.

Twist the fan's wires to their corresponding color. Twist the black wires to the black, the white to the white and the green to the green or copper wires. Place a wire nut over each wire connection.

Place the vent grille over the fan and screw it into the range hood.
