Open a wall on one side of the galley layout. Take down upper cabinets and open a wall into living space, for example. Extend the countertop on the base cabinets to form a bar that extends into living space. Buy stools that complement living room furniture.
Take out the end wall of the galley kitchen. Build a bar unit that fits into the space where the wall stood.
Remove a section of wall between overhead cabinets and the countertop to create an opening into a living space. Construct the bar as a peninsula that is built at a 90-degree angle to the pass through opening. Add stools on both sides of the peninsula.
Turn the galley kitchen into a U-shaped kitchen. Install new countertop material over both galley counters and across the new bar area formed by the base cabinets. Build the countertop wide enough to form an overhang to accommodate stools stored under the end bar area.
Remove some base cabinets at the very end of one of the parallel counters. Leave the countertop material in place to form an eating bar.
