How to Install Granicrete Countertops

Granicrete is a counter resurfacing agent that is applied in three distinct layers during the course of a week. It brings old counters back to life by giving a hard-wearing finish to existing counter materials, and it can mimic the colors and patterns of many different materials commonly used to make counters. You can install Granicrete countertops yourself using a trowel and a paintbrush and have a new countertop finish that exactly matches your own preferred color, pattern and texture.

Clean your counters thoroughly using oil and grease-removing cleaning products. If your countertop is coated in a waxy finish, it must be removed before the surface can be coated in Granicrete. Clean the counter a final time with dish detergent and warm water, then dry thoroughly with a clean towel.

Mix up the base material according to the instructions provided with the Granicrete. Apply the Granicrete evenly across the countertop using a trowel. Lay the Granicrete on thick and smooth it out with the trowel to create an even finish all across the counter. For best results, the minimum thickness of Granicrete to spread on the countertop is 1/6 of an inch. Leave the mixture 24 hours in order for it to set.

Mix up the colors you require for your Granicrete countertop according to both the instructions provided with the color mix, and with your desired color intensity. Paint the color mixture onto the Granicrete in the pattern you desire or simply paint the Granicrete a single color using your paintbrush and then go over it with the paint brush again using strong and light strokes to apply a texture-like effect.

Smooth down the surface with a fine bristled paintbrush. Wait 24 hours for the paint layer to set. Mix up the epoxy layer mixture with cold water. Paint the epoxy onto the Granicrete using smooth strokes. The epoxy will begin to set almost immediately, so you must paint the surface as quickly as you can. Leave the Granicrete alone for a week to set fully.
