How to Do a Beaded Inset on a Cabinet

Kitchen cabinet doors are available in types ranging from glass to stylishly cut and designed. To get the attractive beaded inset on a cabinet door frame, buy a plain cabinet carcass and create the beaded inset you want on your own. You can buy beaded inset strips or you can carve out your own design on the door. Either process will save money and provide the opportunity to decorate your cabinet your way.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the doors from the kitchen cabinet carcass by unscrewing the hinges.

    • 2

Insert an ogee and bead fillet bit into a router. Tighten the collet around the bit.

    • 3

Set the router on the edge of the cabinet carcass with the router body on the inside edge so the bit is on the face of the cabinet carcass.

    • 4

Cut a groove into the face, making a beaded curve on the face of the cabinet. The curve of the bit will cut a groove 1/8-inch in from the edge. The wood between this groove and the edge is rounded by the router bit creating a beaded look appearance around the entire cabinet door.

    • 5

Follow along all four edges of the cabinet door opening.

    • 6

Reattach the cabinet doors by placing the hinges in their allotted spaces and replacing the screws.
