How to Install a Kitchen Island on a Floating Wood Floor

Kitchen islands can boost the appeal of a kitchen and give much needed storage and counter space. You can easily add an island to your kitchen, even one with floating flooring, by choosing small, ready-made islands. These islands are either purchased assembled or are put together at home. They are set on top of the existing flooring and do not need anchoring. Only add an island to your kitchen if you have a kitchen that is at least 8-by-12 feet. A smaller kitchen won't have the proper space for an island.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the height and width of your kitchen island.

    • 2

Determine where you want to position the island. You will need at least 3 feet of space on all sides of the island to allow enough room to walk around. Use the previous measurements to determine the ideal location. Tape an outline of the island on the floor to see where it will go.

    • 3

Carry the island into the kitchen with the help of an assistant. Remove the drawers to make it easier to maneuver. Set the island at the desired location.

    • 4

Set a level on the island and adjust the island's legs until it is level.

    • 5

Replace all the drawers in the island.
