How to Connect a Sprayer to a Kitchen Sink

When installing a kitchen faucet in a sink, you must install the sprayer as the final step of installation. You must use a faucet that is designed to work with a sprayer, since the faucet must have a diverter piece inside as well as a nipple on the underside of the faucet to accommodate the sprayer's hose. The diverter blocks the water path to the spout, directing the water down the sprayer's hose. Once you have installed the sprayer onto the kitchen's faucet, you may turn the water to the faucet back on and test out the faucet and sprayer.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert one end of the sprayer hose to the underside of the sink's faucet. Use the receptor hole in the middle of the faucet, since the receptors on the side are for the hot and cold water lines.

    • 2

Use your hands to tighten the retaining nut on the end of the sprayer hose to the receptor on the bottom of the faucet. Tighten the retaining nut using a basin wrench, stopping once you feel resistance from the nut.

    • 3

Insert the plastic sleeve that comes with the sprayer into the sprayer opening in the sink. Insert the free end of the sprayer hose into the bottom of the plastic sleeve, and then tighten the retaining nut to the bottom of the sleeve.

    • 4

Thread the sprayer onto the top of the plastic sleeve until it is hand-tight. Some sprayer models use a screw that goes through the top of the sprayer and anchors into the plastic sleeve, and then you press the plastic cover over the screw's head.
