How to Make MDF Oak Cabinet Doors

MDF oak sheets are medium density fiberboards made with oak particles and wood pieces. These MDF oak sheets are a cheap alternatives for cabinet doors, as hardwood oak is much more expensive. However, building cabinet doors with MDF boards requires knowledge of fiberboards, as they may crumble if they are not handled properly.

  • Pencil
  • Measuring tape
  • Circular saw
  • Medium-grit sandpaper
  • 1/2-inch screws
  • Screwdriver
  • 2 cabinet hinges
  • 1-inch screws

Instructions

      Measuring the height and width of the cabinet frame your MDF oak door will be attached to. Write these figures down.

      Lay an MDF oak sheet down and draw the cabinet door on it with a pencil using the height and width measurements from Step 1.

      Turn on a table saw and cut out the MDF cabinet door. Use medium-grit sandpaper to remove splinters from the MDF door.

      Attach the cabinet door handle or knob on the front of the cabinet door using a 1-inch screw and a screwdriver. The screw must be inserted from the inside out, so the screw reaches out from the front. Simply screw the knob or handle on the cabinet door.

      Attach two hinges with 1/2-inch screws and screwdriver, so the hinges are attached on the inside of the cabinet. The hinges must be spaced evenly apart, so the cabinet door gets even support.

      Hold the MDF cabinet door up to the other ends of the hinges. Attach the hinges to the door with 1/2-inch screws and the screwdriver. Open and close the cabinet door to ensure it is securely mounted.
