A single-wall cabinet is a cabinet that has a single door. The common height of single-wall cabinets is 30 in. but can be 24 in. for smaller spaces. This wall cabinet has standardized dimensions with a 12-in. depth. The width varies depending on the space in question, but it is common that single-wall cabinets are anywhere between 9 and 21 in. wide. Cabinets larger than 21 in. are classified as double-wall cabinets.
Double-wall cabinets are frames wide enough for two cabinet doors. These cabinets follow the standard height of 30 in. and depth of 12 in. However, the height may be altered if the ceiling is lower, meaning the height may be as small as 18 in. Similar to the single-wall cabinets, the double-wall cabinet width may vary but the width generally starts at 24 in. and goes upward of 36 in.
Corner wall cabinets hang on two walls that come together in a corner. These cabinets are slightly higher than the standard wall cabinets, as the height is 40 in. and they are 24 in. wide. The cabinet door often closes on a 45-degree angle.
Leave some wall space above the wall-mounted cabinets when hanging them in your kitchen, garage or other wall areas in your home. Do not place the cabinets directly on the ceiling, as the wood must have some space above the cabinet to breathe. Leave at least 2 to 3 inches of space between the ceiling and the top of the cabinet. You can paint this space to make it stand out less or more, depending on your design or room décor.
