How to Install a Brushed Aluminum Backsplash

A brushed aluminum backsplash gives a modern feel to a kitchen. Additionally, brushed aluminum is easy to keep clean. Grease and food particles do not have any grout to get stuck in, and a simple degreaser will keep it shiny and clean with little energy. It is relatively easy to install and only takes a couple of house to complete.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the section of wall the brushed aluminum backsplash needs to cover. Cut the aluminum to size with a pair of sharp tin snips. File the edges of the aluminum down to remove any metal shards.

    • 2

Wipe the aluminum thoroughly with denatured alcohol on a clean rag. Focus especially on any grease spots or adhesive residue.

    • 3

Clean the wall where the aluminum will hang thoroughly with denatured alcohol and a clean rag.

    • 4

Apply a layer of metal adhesive to the back of the brushed aluminum. Refer to the instructions on the adhesive container for information on how much adhesive is necessary, but be sure to cover the aluminum all the way to the edges to prevent peeling.

    • 5

Press the aluminum firmly in place. Move your hands over the entire sheet to make sure it sticks everywhere.

    • 6

Place 1-inch tack nails every six inches around the edge of the aluminum with a hammer. Pound them in far enough that they push against the metal but do not bend it. These nails keep the metal from peeling off the wall while the adhesive sets.

    • 7

Remove the tack nails after the adhesive sets. This vary depending on the adhesive used, but is generally 24 hours. Check the instructions on the adhesive container for an exact time.
