How Do I Fasten Cabinet Rails Into Brick & Plaster?

Attach suspension rail mounting hooks securely to the inside of the upper rear corners of the cabinet side panels. Ensure that the ends of the hooks are level with the back of the cabinet prior to fastening them with suitable wood screws and a cordless drill/driver. Depending on the design of your cabinets, you may have to cut narrow slots in the back upper corners if the cabinet to accommodate the hooks.

Measure and mark the rail mounting height on the wall with a pencil and steel measuring tape. Place a long spirit level on this mark; center the bubble and scribe a horizontal guideline across the wall.

Start at the left corner. Measure the distance between the inner side faces of the wall cabinet. Transfer this measurement and cut off the desired length of metal suspension rail with a hacksaw.

Mark a line representing the left edge of the mounting rail on the wall; the distance between the left edge of the rail and the starting point must be the same thickness as the side wall of the cabinet. Place the rail against the wall with the left edge lined up with the side mark and the top edge lined up with the horizontal guideline across the wall.

Place the tip of a sharp pencil into the rail mounting holes and trace their outlines onto the wall. Remove the rail and mark the center point of the oval mounting hole marks with a pencil.

Clamp the correct size masonry bit into a hammer drill. Set the drill to the "hammer" position and place the tip of the bit against the center mark in the first oval slot outline. Apply moderate pressure and press the trigger until the hole has started accurately. Increase pressure and continue drilling the hole to the required depth. Repeat this procedure by drilling the second mounting hole.

Position the suspension rail against the wall so that the top edge lines up with the horizontal guideline. Insert the left self-tapping masonry screw into the rail and snug the screw down with the drill/driver.

Place the spirit level on top of the rail and tap the other end up or down with a hammer until the bubble is centered. Double-check to ensure that the top of the rail is still lined up with the horizontal guideline; adjust if necessary and tighten the screw securely with the drill/driver.

Secure the rail to the wall with the second masonry screw. Lift the cabinet into place, slot the mounting hooks onto the suspension rail and lower the cabinet. Place the spirit level on top of the cabinet to ensure that it is still level.

Repeat this process and mount the remaining cabinets to complete the installation.
