How to Install Aristokraft Cabinets

Changing cabinets can give a kitchen or bathroom an entirely new look. Aristokraft makes wood cabinets for the kitchen, bathroom or any other room in the house. Installing Aristokraft cabinets is an extensive job that takes preparation and the proper tools, but it does not have to be done by a professional. A competent do-it-yourselfer with the right equipment, and maybe a few friends to help, can install them.

Instructions

  1. Preparation

    • 1

Check the cabinet parts to ensure that nothing is missing. Any set of Aristokraft cabinets should come with a detailed parts list.

    • 2

Remove baseboards and any other objects along the wall, ceiling or floor that may impede cabinet installation.

    • 3

Find the high point of the floor where you will install the cabinets. Put a level on top of a straightedge and lay it at different points on the floor, along the wall until you find the floor's highest point.

    • 4
Make sure your horizontal reference lines are completely level.

Mark a level, horizontal line along the wall, at the highest point of the floor. Mark additional horizontal lines at 35 inches for base cabinets or 30 inches for a vanity. Mark horizontal lines at 54, 84, 90 or 96 inches for wall cabinets.

    • 5

Locate and mark the wall studs where cabinets will be installed with a stud finder.

    • 6

Remove the drawers and doors from the cabinets so the interiors are fully accessible.

    Install Wall Cabinets

    • 7

Install wall corner cabinets first. Position a wall cabinet in its corner location along the appropriate horizontal reference line. Hold the cabinet in place with a brace or have helpers assist you.

    • 8

Measure the distance from the corner of the wall to the first wall stud. Measure and mark that distance on the inside of the cabinet about three-fourths down from the top of the cabinet. Do this for both sides of the corner cabinet.

    • 9
Drill starter holes for the cabinet-mounting screws.

Drill holes through the cabinet and wall stud with a 3/32-inch drill bit where the measurements were marked.

    • 10

Insert No. 10, 2 1/2-inch screws into the holes. Tighten them almost completely.

    • 11

Level the cabinets and adjust them by inserting shims between the cabinet and the wall until they are completely level and plumb.

    • 12

Tighten the mounting screws completely with a No. 3 Phillips head screwdriver.

    • 13

Drill 3/32 starter holes through the cabinet and wall studs and install No. 8, 2 ½-inch screws. Tighten the screws almost completely.

    • 14

Check the cabinet position with a level on the top, bottom and side. Adjust the cabinet position with shims until it is plumb and level. Then tighten the screws completely and remove the clamps.

    • 15

Position the next cabinet adjacent to the corner cabinet along the same horizontal reference line. Then secure it tightly to the first cabinet with a clamp.

    • 16

Install all other wall cabinets in the same way.

    Base Cabinets

    • 17

Install the corner base cabinet in the same way as the corner wall cabinet.

    • 18

Clamp the next cabinet securely to the corner cabinet. Check the cabinet for plumb and level.

    • 19

Insert shims into any spaces between the floor and the cabinet. Also shim any spaces between the wall and the cabinet.

    • 20

Drill 3/32-inch holes through the cabinet and wall stud. Drill one hole in the upper part of the cabinet and one hole in the lower part.

    • 21

Install No. 10, 2 1//2-inch screws into the screw holes and tighten them almost completely.

    • 22

Check the cabinet for level and plumb again. Adjust the shims as needed before tightening the screws completely.

    Install Drawers and Doors

    • 23

Insert the cabinet drawers and check that each drawer face is flush against the cabinet face.

    • 24

Check and adjust the level on the cabinet if a drawer does not close flush against its face. Do this by loosening the mounting screws, adjusting the cabinet position, reshimming the cabinet and then tightening the screws again.

    • 25

Move the cabinet drawer guides by hand to adjust them, if needed.

    • 26

Reinstall the doors to the cabinets with the original screws.

    • 27

Adjust the doors by loosening the hinge screws on the door frames, moving the doors up or down then tightening the screws. You can also adjust full overlay hinges in and out and side to side, in addition to up and down.
