Prepare the base cabinets for the installation of the countertop. Remove all of the drawers from the cabinet to provide access for the underside of the laminate countertop. Double-check to ensure that the base cabinet framing is level, as this will affect the countertop. Adjust the cabinet base with shims if necessary to achieve a level surface across the entire cabinet base.
Dry-fit the laminate countertop on top of the cabinet base. If you are dealing with a multi-piece countertop, slide the pieces together to ensure that they fit snugly at all intersections, as well as against the backsplash wall. Once they are aligned, use the drill to fasten the pieces together from underneath using the draw-tight fasteners on the underside of the laminate.
Install the countertop. Lift up the countertop from the front end and apply construction adhesive to the top edge of the framing for the base cabinets that the countertop rests on. Lower the countertop onto the glue and the base cabinet frame. Mount the countertop to the base cabinet framing by attaching it to the cabinets from underneath the cabinet on the bottom side with wood screws.
