How to Add a Spice Rack to a Cabinet

A wooden spice rack attached to the back of a cabinet door creates a practical way for you to see your spices all at once. Typical spice cupboards fill up easily and can look cluttered, making finding the right spice for a special recipe a challenging task. Install a spice rack to keep the spices organized and within easy reach. You will be able to see quickly which spices you are running low on, ensuring that your spice stock stays filled.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the width and height of the inside of the cabinet door. Subtract the inside framework of the cabinet base. Compare this measurement with the spice rack to confirm that it will fit.

    • 2

Check to make sure the shelves of the cabinet are not in the way of the spice racks when the cabinet door closes. Using individual crate-type shelves gives you the option of custom positioning each shelf.

    • 3

Install two hanging screw mounts to the back of each of the spice cabinet shelves, setting them even with each other. Measure the distances apart and mark the cabinet door where each screw should go.

    • 4

Drill shallow pilot holes for the screws, making sure that you do not go through to the front of the cabinet door. Add a little wood glue to each screw hole and install the screws, leaving a 1/16-inch gap for sliding the mount over.

    • 5

Position the spice rack shelves just above the screws so that the screw mounts line up with them vertically. Slide the spice rack into position on the screws. Repeat for each shelf.
