Prepare the demolition area in your kitchen by taping a plastic sheet over doorways leading to other rooms in your home. Open any windows in the kitchen to help with ventilation. Kitchen tile demolition generates a large volume of dust that should be contained.
Chisel away at the grout between kitchen tiles in the corner of the room using a hammer and chisel. Grout chips away much easier than the tiles and exposes the floor underneath the kitchen tile.
Pry the tile up with a flat bar. The tile should pop away from the floor below. If not, chisel more of the grout and try again.
Remove a complete row of tile along one wall of your kitchen with the hammer, chisel and flatbar. Cover the next row of tile with a towel and use a sledge hammer to break the tiles. The towel will help minimize the amount of dust that is kicked up from the sledge hammer.
Discard the tile and use the shop vac to remove any dust and small debris after removing each row of tile.
Sand the exposed kitchen floor to remove any last bits of grout and adhesive.
