Kitchen Cabinet Hardware Lazy Susan Installation Instructions

Anyone who spends much time in the kitchen knows cabinet and counter spaces are two of the most important features in a well-used kitchen. Unfortunately, cabinets come at a price -- corner cabinets. Somewhat like deep, dark caves, corner cabinets offer places where miscellaneous objects easily become lost -- especially when you need it. A lazy Susan is one solution. Modern lazy Susans pull out, twirl around, and use almost every inch of the storage space without spills and jams. A lazy Susan in any cabinet can store much of your clutter, effectively increasing your cabinet space while maximizing countertop area.

Instructions

  Remove the cupboard door to provide better access. Lift and take out cabinet shelf, if possible, although not strictly necessary. Clear the cabinet of all items in either case.

  Measure the inside of your cabinet to determine the width of the cupboard opening, the depth of the cabinet and the length of the cabinet inside. Evaluate the clearance space in front of the cabinet as well; the lazy Susan tray must have about a foot of room to pull out completely. Use these measurements to purchase the appropriate size lazy Susan kit.

  Place the lazy Susan rack on the shelf, either inside the cabinet or out, with the flat side of the rack flush with the shelf edge that faces the door opening. Center the rack in the middle of the shelf width to indicate final placement.

  Trace around the lazy Susan tray using a carpenter's pencil or marker. This will create a half-moon shape on the cupboard shelf, which is where the new lazy Susan will hang.

  Cut the lazy Susan outline out with a jigsaw. Follow the outside edge of the pencil mark to create a slight gap between the lazy Susan rack and the remaining shelf, once installed.

  Sand the cut edges of the shelf. Run the sandpaper around the inside edge of the cut, then buff the upper and lower edges of the cut-out to smooth the opening completely. Put the shelf back in the cabinet if it was previously removed.

  Center the mounting brackets, which are part of the lazy Susan assembly, inside the cupboard on the backside of the cabinet front. Ensure the lazy Susan is situated in the shelf opening as needed for proper movement. Mark the position of the brackets before removing the lazy Susan's circular rack from the bracket hardware.

  Drive screws through the mounting bracket into the cabinet to secure. The exact number and placement of the hardware may vary with the manufacturer.

  Snap the lazy Susan rack into place to reattach to the attached brackets. Test the installation by pulling it out and turning it, then pushing it back in place. Repeat steps for a second lazy Susan in the same cabinet, if desired. Complete by replacing the cabinet door.
