How to Change My Corner Cabinets Into Lazy Susans

If you have blind corner base cabinets with just a shelf or no shelf and shove spare bowls and pots to their back, then installing half-moon lazy Susan shelves will help you store those items easily. You'll never lose large bowls or pots to that mysterious dark hole in the back of your cabinets again. Instead, you'll open the door and slide out the half-moon lazy Susan shelves holding the items. Because half-moon lazy Susans are available in different sizes, take measurements before purchasing half-moon lazy Susan kits. Measure the corner cabinets' door frame width and height as well as their interior space. A half-moon lazy Susan shelf's greatest center width must be 1 inch less than the door frame width in order for it to swing around easily as the door opens. Measure corner cabinets' shelves, too.

Instructions

    • 1

Complete a mock assembly of your half-moon lazy Susan kits to see how each lazy Susan goes together. Ensure the lazy Susans will work for the cabinet measurements you obtained. Check the lazy Susans' dimensions to determine whether or not it is necessary to cut out the cabinet shelf so it does not interfere with a lazy Susan.

    • 2

Set one lazy Susan kit's face bracket with bottom mount against a corner cabinet frame on the side where the door swings open. Drill in the accompanying screws for the kit's wall bracket and for the bottom mount. Add the shaft collar for the shelving pole. Read the parts manual that accompanies the kit to ensure you use the correct size screw for the part. Complete this procedure for each lazy Susan you wish to install.

    • 3

Assemble the lazy Susan shelves to the frame assemblies, which hold shelving at a right angle to the pole assembly you will add later. If you use a slide assembly, then add a holding screw at the end of the slide runner, which is uncovered when you pull out a shelf. Add a lock washer and hex nut to tighten each screw into place securely.

Slide the shelf post through the circular collar of the shelf bracket of the bottom shelf, and place the pole onto the shaft bracket and bottom mount. Center the bottom shelf over the bottom mount, and then push and seat the pole into the shaft holder on the bottom mount to secure it in place. Add the mounting bracket for the top shelf, and screw it into place against the wood frame about half way up the pole. Slide the circular collar of the top shelf over the top of the pole, and seat it against the holding bracket. Add the pole cap to finish the project.
