How to Make Your Own Hanging Pans on Shelving

The two parts of keeping a kitchen organized are storing items near where they will be used and keeping the most used items in the most convenient place, according to the University of Illinois Extension. Hanging pots from a shelf makes good use of otherwise empty wall space. Just make sure the shelf is close enough to the stove for easy reaching.

Instructions

    • 1

Find the studs, using a stud finder, under the shelf on which you want to hang your pots and mark them with a pencil. The shelf should be at eye level or higher so you don’t have to bend over to reach a pot.

    • 2

Screw the steel brackets into the bottom of the shelf and into the studs in the wall with the hardware that came with the brackets. The brackets will reinforce the shelves to hold the extra weight of the pots. Some shelves may be strong enough to bypass this step.

    • 3

Drill pilot holes into the base of the wood shelf about 2 inches from the outer edge using an electric drill. Space them at least 8 inches apart or more, depending on the number and size of your pots.

    • 4

Screw 3-inch wood-screw C-hooks into the predrilled holes until they are tight and the opening is facing outward.

    • 5

Hang the pots by their hooks from the shelf.
