Drilling Holes in a Swanstone Kitchen Sink

Swanstone composite countertops and sinks do not have predrilled holes for the installation of faucets and mounted soap dispensers. Drilling holes in a Swanstone sink requires the correct drill bits to ensure the material does not crack or split when drilled. High-speed spade bits and hole saws have the correct cutting edges to cut through Swanstone without causing damage to the kitchen sink. Combining the correct drill bit with the correct drilling procedure will ensure you do not damage your Swanstone sink during installation.

Instructions

    • 1

Set the Swanstone sink underside up on a stable work surface.

    • 2

Mark all hole locations on the underside of the sink by drawing a crosshair for each hole with a pencil.

    • 3

Secure a 1/4-inch drill bit in the chuck of a drill. Drill a 1/4-inch hole at each marked location. Ensure you drill each hole completely through the sink.

    • 4

Flip over the sink to expose the finished side of the sink.

    • 5

Remove the 1/4-inch drill bit from the drill. Secure a spade bit or a hole saw in the chuck of the drill. Set the center point of the spade bit or the center bit of the hole saw in the 1/4-inch pilot hole. Drill through the sink slowly to eliminate the chances of the bit binding in the material as you drill.

    • 6

Clear the debris from the surface of the sink after all holes are drilled through the sink.
