How to Cut Extra Holes in Kitchen Sinks

Although all sinks come with handles and faucets, you may prefer to add extra accessories such as dispensers and sprayers. Since kitchen sinks can be expensive to replace, if you have a metal sink, you can save a lot of money by cutting the extra holes in your sink yourself for the addition of accessories rather than replacing your entire sink.

Instructions

Measure the space that is available on your sink’s deck, the area next to the handles and faucet, where you could possibly place your new addition. Map out these measurements on a sheet of paper in order to determine the best place for the new hole. The drawing made from your sink’s measurements will act as a template for drilling, so this needs to be drawn to actual size in order to ensure the accurate placement of your new hole.

Place the paper drawing with the measurements over your sink’s deck in the position where you want the new accessory. Put on safety glasses, and use the pilot drill bit to begin drilling in the correct space. This smaller hole will act as a guide for the hole saw drill bit to finish creating the desired hole size.

Drill the final hole with the hole saw drill bit that is the size of the desired hole. Your final hole needs to be the exact size of your new fixture so no extra space allows for unwanted movement and instability. Drill slowly and with a lot of pressure in order to make a clean cut. Once the hole is cut, install the new fixture.
