Sliding cabinet doors may stick when opening and closing the doors due to a disconnect between the sliding tracks. When the sliding doors are installed in the cabinet frame, sliding tracks are installed on both the cabinet frame and the door itself. A reason for sticking could be that the sliding track on the door has disconnected from the track on the frame, which means that the door is not sliding, but rather is just being pushed outside the track by you as you try to close the door. To fix this problem, remove the door from the frame, and reinstall it by inserting the door into the tracks on the frame.
Another reason why sliding cabinet doors may stick when sliding the doors open is a dismount of sliding tracks on either the door or the cabinet frame. When the sliding door was built, tracks were installed on both the bottom and top of the cabinet door and on the cabinet frame. If one of these tracks becomes dismounted from the frame or the door, the sliding track will not function as expected. Reattach the track to the frame or door by placing screws into the door or frame through the track’s installation holes.
The sliding tracks must be installed evenly on both the door and the frame. If one of the tracks is installed at a slight angle, the sliding tracks may stick as the door track slides into the sides of the frame track. To repair, uninstall the uneven track, and reinstall it using a level. The level informs you if the track is unevenly installed.
If the tracks are evenly installed and are properly connected, the sticking may be due to an object or substance in the tracks. A spilled substance will dry over time and become sticky, especially if the substance has a high level of sugar. In addition, a small object such as a pea or a single nut may also be the reason why the tracks are sticking. Examine all tracks to ensure all objects are removed and substances are washed clean.
