How to Paint Galley Kitchen Cabinets Cream

Galley kitchens are already small, but dark cabinets just make them look smaller. An easy fix to update an older galley kitchen is painting the cabinets a cream color. Not only is it simple to do, but it will also make your galley kitchen look bigger, since the cream is a light and airy color. Select a cream color that matches the rest of your décor in the kitchen.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove all the cabinet doors and drawers. Use the screwdriver to unscrew the screws from the hinges and the doors. Lift the doors from the hinges and set aside both the doors and hinges. Use the screwdriver to unscrew the handles or knobs from the cabinets and drawers as well. The screws for the handles and knobs are located inside the cabinets and drawers. Set the handles and knobs aside.

Dampen a sponge and apply the grease-cutting cleaner to it. Wipe down the cabinets with the sponge and rinse them well with a clean sponge and water. Allow the cabinets to dry.

    • 3

Apply a dab of wood filler on any places with dents. Smooth the filler over the wood with the sponge.

    • 4

Rub the sandpaper over the cabinet’s surfaces in the same direction as the wood's grain. Place the masking tape along any place you don’t want painted.

    • 5

Paint the inside of the galley cabinets cream with the roller and the inside of the drawers with a brush, if desired. Paint the outside of the drawers with a brush. Paint one side of the cabinets with the rollers and let the paint dry before painting the edges and the other side of the cabinets. Paint the outside of the cabinets last.

Allow the paint to dry and reinstall the cabinet doors and drawers.
