Cutting tile is often the most difficult part of the installation process. Most homeowners think that a wet tile saw can be used for all their tile cutting needs. However, smaller tiles can be difficult to run through a tile saw. Trying to run them through a saw can be dangerous and may result in accident or injury. Unless the tiles are made from hard stone-like granite, small two-by-two tiles can be cut with a carbide-tipped tool. The tool scores the hardened glaze on the top of the tile and allows it to be easily snapped to size.

1
Measure the tile with a measuring tape and determine where it needs to be cut. Use a pencil to mark the tile where it needs to be cut.
-
2
Place a steel ruler on the tile along the marked pencil line. Use a carbide-tipped pencil to score the top glaze on the tile. You can also use a score-and-snap tile cutter if you have one available.

3
Put on safety glasses to protect your eyes from potential hazards as you snap the tile.

4
Place tile nippers on the two-by-two tile. Hold the tile nippers in one hand and the two-by-two tile in another hand. This will give you the appropriate grip to snap the tile to size.

Install the tile as desired.
