How to Install New Preassembled Cabinets

In any size kitchen, upper and lower cabinets take up the most space and depending on the material, may also eat up a considerable amount of a kitchen budget. Homeowners can save themselves some time and money on both fronts by purchasing and installing preassembled cabinets. Armed with the right tools, an installation plan and preferably an assistant, transform your kitchen with cabinets.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate the studs in the wall; they are generally 16 inches apart. Mark the locations with a pencil.

    • 2

Use a level and pencil to draw a line along the wall to reference where the bottom of the cabinets will be placed.

    • 3

Screw a piece of 2x4 wood to the wall; secure the top of the wood on the level line.

    • 4

Take the doors off the cabinets to make installation faster.

    • 5

Hang the first cabinet, beginning in the corner. Rest the ledge of the cabinet on the 2x4 and drive a screw through the stud.

    • 6

Attach the next cabinet, making sure that the cabinet fronts are flush. Repeat the process until all cabinets are in place.

    • 7

Tighten the screws and then put on the cabinet doors.
