How to Attach a Porcelain Undermount Sink to a Granite Counter

Undermount sinks offer a cleaner, sleeker look for your kitchen or bathroom. Undermount sinks are easier to clean since there isn't an edge on top of the counter in which water, dirt and grime can collect. Installing an undermount sink to a granite counter gives you countless choices of sink shape and style because the granite is cut to fit the sink you choose, which results in a truly custom sink and counter.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the sink and mark the dimensions and sink location on the granite for cutting. Precise marking is required in order for correct placement. Granite counter tops should be installed by a professional. Often, they will measure and mark the granite for you. Your professional granite installer will do the necessary cutting for the sink opening. They will also cut the holes for the faucets at this time.

Apply the caulk around the outside upper edge of the sink. Remember to apply it only where the sink will meet the underside of the granite. It is a good idea to use a caulk that contains mildewcide to help prevent mold and mildew.

    • 3

Place a 2-by-4 on the top of the granite on both sides of the sink. Use a c-clamp on each side of the sink, clamping down on top of the 2-by-4s to protect the granite. This will hold the sink in place for you to install the sink clips.

    • 4

Epoxy the bolts from the undermount sink installation kit in place at regular intervals around the sink on the underside of the granite. Allow the epoxy to cure for approximately 15 minutes.

    • 5

Epoxy the clips to the underside of the sink adjacent to the bolts. Allow the epoxy to set for approximately 15 minutes.

    • 6

Add the nut to the bolt to hold the clip in place.
