How to Seal a Stainless Steel Sink Corner Weld

Stainless steel welds may not always end up with a perfect seal. When welding corners on a stainless steel sink, you may end up with creases or gaps that may trap food particles or bacteria. To prevent this, seal the weld on the sink. You are able to wash stainless steel sinks that have a sealant on them by using a mild dishwashing soap and it will not remove the sealant.

Instructions

    • 1

Wash the welded corner area with soap and water to ensure a clean surface.

    • 2

Dry the area, completely, with a lint-free cloth. There should not be any moisture on the sink, as it may make the sealant run.

    • 3

Put on rubber gloves, and then squirt a dime-sized amount of stainless steel sealant onto your fingertip. You may need to use more sealant depending on the size of the area but start off with a small amount to ensure you do not use too much.

    • 4

Rub the sealant over the welded area and fill in any small gaps. The sealant should be a glue-like substance. It should not be watery, like oil, or too thick, like putty. It should be able to be rubbed into the welded area with little effort, while not running out of the weld.

    • 5

Wipe up any overspill of sealant that surrounds the area of the weld. Use a dry paper towel to wipe up the sealant.

    • 6

Allow the sealant to dry for several hours, or according to the sealant's instructions.
