How to File Laminate Countertop End Caps

All laminate counters have end caps that cover the bare edges and give the counter a finished look. The end caps are usually applied by pressing a warm clothes iron to the end of the counter to active the adhesive. When finished, they need to be trimmed to fit your specific counter. This is done using a file. When finished, you'll have new counters that look like a professional installed them.

Instructions

    • 1

Hold a fine-toothed metal file so it is against the edge of the laminate and pointing down and away from your body.

    • 2

File the edges of the laminate so they are rounded and smooth by moving the file towards the laminate. Avoid pulling the file back toward your body or you can damage the laminate.

    • 3

Continue to file the end caps until they are flush with the laminate counters and have a natural, finished look.
