Measure the vent hood. Measure the distance that the hood protrudes from the cabinetry and the width between the cabinets if you have an undermount hood. Measure the hoods’ canopy and the ductwork if you have a wall-mounted hood.
Construct a wooden box to fit around the hood according to the hood’s dimensions. Use a table saw to cut wood into the appropriate dimensions that match each side of your wall-mounted hood. Use wood glue to attach each piece of wood over the hood and nail it in place, one side at a time. Another option is adding wood that is larger than the hood to make a simple box shape that blends in with the cabinetry.
Cover up the wooden box if you prefer. Stain or paint it to match your cabinets. Add mortar to the box with a trowel and cover with tile making the hood match your tile backsplash.
Measure the vent hood’s dimensions. Cut pieces of contact paper in the same dimensions. Add contact paper to the hood one side at a time. Use wallpaper as an alternative.
Use spray paint to cover up the vent hood. Use a color that matches the cabinetry or appliances.
Utilize metal tiles with an adhesive backing covering the hood. These tiles come in a variety of metalliclike finishes including copper, aluminum and tin. Cut tiles with metal snips to fit the tiles to size around the edges.
Order a custom vent hood cover. These covers are made to your specifications and can cover your vent hood and the attached ducting.
