How to Install a Keg Tower Through a Tile Countertop

Having a beer keg, or kegerator, in place means having to install a dispensing method for the unit. A keg tower is a dispenser that you can place atop your tile countertop, with the keg placed into a cabinet beneath, hidden from view. With the tower installed, your beer is within easy reach, allowing you to fill a glass whenever you desire without having the keg within view. Installing the tower requires cutting through the tile countertop, a process that if done improperly will result in broken tiles.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the diameter of the beer line using the tape measure. Measure the dimensions of the keg or kegerator that you’re placing into the cabinet beneath the tiled counter.

    • 2

Select a location for your keg tower on top of the tiles. Ensure that the cabinet beneath has enough room for the keg or kegerator you’re using. Measure the interior with the tape measure to make certain that it’s larger.

    • 3

Attach a drill bit to your drill that’s large enough to create a hole to pass the beer line though and that’s made for the material of your tiles.

    • 4

Cover the chosen drilling location with a strip of masking tape so the drill won’t chip the countertop as you drill through it or won’t slide on the surface.

    • 5

Place the drill onto the countertop and proceed to drill a hole through the surface at the desired location. Remove the drill after completion and then smooth the hole with a fine-toothed file. Remove the masking tape.

    • 6

Place the keg tower onto the countertop with the hole centered beneath. Mark the mounting holes at the base of the countertop onto the tiles using a marker.

    • 7

Switch the drill bit to one that's the same size as the bolts that you’re using to mount the tower to the counter. Drill through each of the mounting holes using the same procedure used to drill the beer hose hole. Remove the pieces of tape.

    • 8

Attach the beer hose to the base of the tower, and then slide it through the hole in the countertop. Place the tower back onto the counter with the holes in the base aligned with those through the counter.

    • 9

Push bolts through the mounting holes in the base of the tower and through the drilled countertop holes. Attach nuts to the bolts under the countertop, and then tighten the bolts in place using the socket wrench.

    • 10

Place a bead of silicone caulk around the base where it meets the tiles to keep liquids from flowing beneath.
