How to Prevent Stuck Tiles in a Dishwasher

Running into challenges with your appliances may happen when you re-tile or renovate your kitchen. If the new tile is higher than the old, there is a risk that your dishwasher will be too tall for its space and no longer properly fit. However, many dishwashers have adjustable legs that can allow the dishwasher to be lowered and prevent it from becoming stuck in its spot.

Turn the water off that runs to and from your dishwasher, for safety. The on and off knob is usually located in the back of the dishwasher near the wall that it is positioned in front of; turn the knob to the right to turn the water off. Suspending the water helps to prevent any leaks or floods if the water tubes are accidentally knocked out of place while adjusting the dishwasher legs.

Open the front panel of the appliance to access the legs. Most front panels just require that you unhitch them from the side and then lift them up or off. Look inside to find the legs, which are usually situated just beyond the front of the machine. Refer to the appliance's owner manual for more information about opening the panel of your specific machine.

Adjust the legs with pliers. You may lower the legs by loosening the retaining screws and resetting them on a lower level. The retaining screws are located on the adjustable portion of the leg and they should be the only screws that are attached to this portion of the leg. When you unscrew the retaining screw, you are able to adjust the legs higher, lower or to even remove the legs altogether if you need.

Double check that all of the legs on the dishwasher have been adjusted to the same length. For example, if you lower the first one by one notch, lower the remaining legs by one notch, as well. Replace the front panel on the dishwasher by re-hitching it and pressing it into place. Turn the water back on by turning the knob to the left.
