How to Transition Pergo From a Bedroom to a Hallway

Pergo, like other laminate flooring materials, is often installed one room at a time. This process leaves gaps between each room and the hallway or between each adjoining room. Transition molding is used to cover the gaps. In the case of a Pergo-to-Pergo installation, T-molding is used. Pergo makes a specialized metal strip to grip the molding and hold it into place.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the width of space between the two laminate floors and the distance from doorjamb to doorjamb. Purchase T-molding wide enough to span the gap from the Pergo in the bedroom to the Pergo in the hall.

    • 2

Cut the metal strip to fit the width of the doorway. Use snips to cut the metal strip.

    • 3

Lay the metal strip down in the gap between rooms.

    • 4

Drill a pilot hole through each hole in the metal strip and into the subfloor.

    • 5

Attach the metal strip to the subfloor with the included screws.

    • 6

Measure a length of T-molding to fit in the doorway and use a power saw to cut the T-molding to that size.

    • 7

Snap the T-molding into the metal strip in the floor.

    • 8

Close the bedroom door over the T-molding installation several times and walk over the T-molding to ensure that it is solidly in place.
