Place the fence of your table approximately 4 inches away from your table saw blade, and lock it in place. Run the palm tree boards past the blade to create a 4-inch-wide board. You can adjust the width of the boards to suit your needs. Using a rip fence and a table saw ensures your boards are of uniform width.
Run both sides of the boards through a thickness planer until you reach a thickness around 3/8 inch. You can adjust the thickness if you choose. However, select a uniform thickness that removes all of the low spots from the boards.
Measure the thickness of the board. Transfer the measurement to the table saw. Set the fence half the distance of the board’s thickness. Use the center of the table saw blade to complete the measurement. The idea is to cut a groove down the center edge of the board.
Position the faces of the board against the fence, then slide the boards across the blade. This creates the groove of the board.
Measure the thickness of the wall between the edge of the board and the groove, and set the fence on your table saw to match this thickness.
Run the boards across the table saw blade, then turn the boards around and run the other sides across the blade. This will create a tongue along the edge of the board. A tongue is a ridge that protrudes from the side of the board. Do this with the sides of the boards opposite the sides you installed the grooves onto.
