How to Build a Snowboard Rack for the Wall

Store your snowboards where they are easily accessible and viewable by building your own snowboard rack. The simple pipe design of the rack allows you to line a wall with fittings that leave the rack largely unseen while highlighting the boards themselves. With the majority of the parts readily available in pre-cut lengths, the mounting of each rack level is quickly done. You will be able to complete a multi-layer rack in under an hour, using inexpensive building material that costs a fraction of the price of retail racks.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate the studs in the wall where you wish to build the snowboard rack. Run a stud finder over the wall and listen for the indicator beep or watch for the indicator light on the finder’s display to show a stud’s presence. Mark the location of two of the studs, either 16 or 24 inches apart, depending on the spacing of the studs in your wall, with a pencil.

    • 2

Place a carpenter’s level onto the wall at the desired height of the snowboard holder, overlapping the two studs. Draw a horizontal lone along the straightedge at the level that you want your holder placed.

    • 3

Attach two 1-inch diameter pipe flanges on either end of the drawn line, centered on the line. Screw the flanges through the wall and into the studs beneath with drywall screws using a drill with a screw bit attached.

    • 4

Screw a 12-inch long, 1-inch diameter pipe into each of the attached pipe flanges. The pipes will extend from the wall, parallel to the floor.

    • 5

Measure and cut a 12-inch section of 1-inch diameter cork pipe insulation. Roll the insulation over each of the pipes to provide a non-slip surface for placing your boards.Screw pipe caps over the pipe ends to complete a rack level.

    • 6

Repeat the level-building process for as many rack levels you wish to create. Place each additional level about 8-inches from the adjacent one in a line running along the two studs. Use the rack by sliding a snowboard onto the two pipes.
