How to Fit Inconel Pipe

Inconel pipe comes in a number of special alloys meant to be used in situations where strong pipe is required. However, despite the specialized nature of these pipes, they fit together like any other sort of pipe with the same shape and dimensions. All you need are the proper pipe ends or connections in the right sizes and you're ready to get to work.

Examine your pipe ends. Inconel pipes will be either square or round and the ends will be beveled, plain or threaded. Threaded ends screw together, while beveled or plain ends require an end bell or socket connection to fit them together.

Screw the threaded ends of the pipe together. There are two types of threads; a male end which is a threaded protrusion and a female end that's a threaded socket for the male end to screw into. The threads have to be of the same size for a proper fit. If you have two male ends that have to go together, or two female ends, use a connector that has the proper ends necessary. Pipe connectors that have a male on one end, a female on the other, or two sides of the same "gender" are sometimes necessary to connect pipes that wouldn't otherwise fit together.

Use a socket connection for pipes that don't have threads. These socket connections, or bell connections, are actually of two different diameters. The bigger diameter fits over the exterior of the pipe, while the smaller diameter is located roughly halfway down the socket and it's only big enough for the interior diameter of the pipe. Once fitted, put a clamp over the connection and tighten it down. Repeat so that you have a pipe in each side of the connector.
