How to Enclose a Jacuzzi Bathtub

A Jacuzzi tub can be enclosed with a surround in the same way as any other bathtub. The point of a surround is to protect the walls from water, which is actually more important with a Jacuzzi than with a regular tub, because of the Jacuzzi water's movement, which creates more moisture in the surrounding area. Of the several ways to surround the Jacuzzi, the old favorite is with a tile surface. This not only protects the wall from moisture, but provides a wide range of design options.

Instructions

    • 1

Make a vertical line up the middle of the first wall behind the Jacuzzi, from top to bottom.

    • 2

Spread tile adhesive along the wall, from the Jacuzzi rim up to about two feet above it. You should still be able to see the vertical line through the adhesive.

    • 3

Press in a tile to the wall on one side of the vertical line. Set two spacers between the bottom edge of the tile and the Jacuzzi rim.

    • 4

Set tiles alongside the first one, in a course along the top of the Jacuzzi. Set spacers between the tiles and the Jacuzzi, and between the tiles, to separate them from each other. Cut the tiles to fit at the ends, as needed, on a tile saw.

    • 5

Set the next course of tiles in, just above the bottom course, again starting at the middle and working to the sides. Build up the wall course by course, using the tile saw to cut around fixtures as needed. Tile each wall behind the Jacuzzi.

    • 6

Let the tiles set for 12 hours. Pull out the spacers.

    • 7

Grout the walls starting at the top and working your way down, using a grout float. Push the grout into the lines between the tiles. Wipe up the residual grout from the tile surface with a damp sponge.

    • 8

Let the grout set for 24 hours. Run a line of caulk between the bottom row of tiles and the Jacuzzi rim. Let the caulk dry for 24 hours.
