How to Air Brush Clean Metal Ducts

The best way to ensure clean indoor air is to install a quality air filtration system and maintain your duct work properly. Part of that maintenance involves cleaning out the ducts to dislodge dirt and other particles that settle there over time. There are several widely used methods for cleaning duct work, including air brushing or air washing, power brushing and contact vacuuming. If you plan to use the air brushing method, you need to have the proper tools and equipment to get the job done right.

Attach the skipper nozzle to the air hose you will be using to clean the ducts. The skipper nozzle is designed to direct the compressed air from the hose inside the duct. Once inside, the air from the high pressure air hose is forced through the ductwork, causing dirt particles to become airborne and allowing them to flow through the system to the vacuum collection equipment that is part of the duct setup.

Locate the spots where the metal ducts are accessible inside your home or business. Depending on the design of the ducts, you may need to disengage several clips or remove several retaining screws to gain access to the ducts themselves. Remove the covers from the ducts and set them aside.

Place the high pressure air hose with the skipper nozzle installed inside the duct and turn it on. The skipper nozzle propels the compressed air through the duct work and helps to dislodge any trapped dirt and debris.
