Heating ducts are often a necessary evil in those locations that have any sort of winter. Fortunately, as long as you already have a heating system in place, it isn't too difficult to cut a hole out of newly-laid carpet for an existing heating duct or to install a new duct and register. The key to cutting the hole properly is in measuring. As long as you measure the hole properly, you can make a clean cut through your carpeting.
