How to Remove Bathroom Cabinets for Plumbing

Bathroom remodeling projects may involve changes to the existing plumbing. You may have to remove bathroom cabinets, such as a vanity, in order accommodate new plumbing. Removing bathroom cabinets is not a complicated task. You can remove bathroom cabinets yourself with just a few basic tools.

      Turn the water cutoff valves clockwise to turn off the water. Place a wrench on the nut securing the cold water line. Turn the nut counterclockwise to remove the water line from underneath the sink. Repeat this procedure for the hot water line.

      Remove any plumbing pipes that will interfere with the removal of the bathroom cabinet. Use the pipe wrench to turn the pipe nut connected to the sink drain. Turn the nut counterclockwise to free the plumbing pipe from the drain.

      Open the cabinet door. Look for the screws that secure the cabinet to the wall studs, and determine if they are flat-head or Phillips head screws.

      Place the appropriate screw tip drill bit into an electric drill. Tighten the bit into the drill chuck. Put the electric drill switch in the reverse position. Place the drill bit tip onto a screw head, and depress the trigger to remove the screw. Repeat this procedure for the rest of the screws. Set the screws aside.

      Pull the bathroom cabinet away from the wall. Slide the cabinet off to the side so that you can access the plumbing.
