Measure the area of the ceiling in the closet, width and then length. Multiply the two sums. Measure the width and length of the acoustic paneling and multiply the sums. Divide the ceiling area by the area of a single panel to determine the number of panel required. Use the same process to determine the number of panels required for the walls. Calculate the area of a single studio foam sheet and divide the ceiling and wall sums by this number to determine the number of foam sheets required.
Tap the ceiling and walls with a hammer to locate the studs. Locate each end of the stud by tapping the ceiling 6 inches from the two opposing walls or the wall and door frame. Record the distance of each stud from one of the walls that runs perpendicular to the walls between which the studs span. Locate the wall studs using the same method and record the distance of each stud from one end of the wall.
Apply epoxy glue to the face of one side of an acoustic panel with a paint brush. Cover the entire face of one side of the panels. Start at a corner and affix the panels to the ceiling. Tack the panels into place by driving nails though the panels and into the studs in order to hold the panels in place while the epoxy dries.
Epoxy and place a second panel congruent to the first -- by butting the edge of the loose panel to that of the curing panel -- and tack it in place. If the panel is too large to fit, measure the distance between the acoustic panel that is curing and the wall and cut the loose panel to size using a straight edge and a utility knife.
Cover the walls using the same method. Remove the door from the hinges, lay it flat and epoxy a panel cut to size to the back of it. Allow the epoxy to cure for 24 hours. Cover the back face of a foam panel with epoxy, slide it into a corner of the ceiling and hold it in place for one minute.
Add a second panel to the ceiling, congruent to the first and hold it in place. Continue adding foam panel until the ceiling is covered. Cut panels to fit with a utility knife and a straight edge. Cover the walls and the back of the door using the same method. Remount the door.
