Fahrenheat Baseboard Heater Installation Instructions

Fahrenheat baseboard heaters use convectional heat to warm up a room, so they are not equipped with noisy fans. Because they rely on convectional heat, avoid installing the unit below items such as vinyl blinds or drapes to prevent discoloration and heat damage. Although you don’t need any ductwork, plumbing or flues, you do need to hire a certified electrician to run an electrical hookup from a breaker switch on the main household panel to the desired heater location.

Things You'll Need

  • Electronic stud finder
  • Pencil
  • Set of drill bits
  • Cordless drill
  • Flat-head screwdriver

Instructions

    • 1

Locate and mark the position of two wall studs at a desired location on an outside wall close to a window, using an electronic stud finder and pencil. Drill a 3/8-inch hole through the wall where the power supply is required, using a cordless drill.

    • 2

Have a licensed electrician run a three-wire cable from the breaker switch to the heater location. Ensure that it protrudes 12 inches through the hole in the drywall. Trip the breaker switch to the "Off" position and secure it to the panel with a strip of masking tape to prevent someone else restoring power while you're working.

    • 3

Undo the screw on the bottom of the wiring compartment cover on either end of the heater, using a flat-head screwdriver, and lift the cover off. Remove one of the cable knockouts on the back and insert a rubber grommet into the knockout hole to prevent chaffing.

    • 4

Insert the power supply cable through the hole in the grommet and under the built-in cable clamp. Tighten the cable clamp as directed and strip 1/2 inch off the end of all three wires, using a pair of side cutters.

    • 5

Attach the relevant connectors to the wires with a crimping tool as directed in the instructions. Connect the green ground wire to the ground screw on the heater casing and tighten the screw securely.

    • 6

Refer to the instructions provided with the thermostat, and wire the power cable to the heater and thermostat as directed. Ensure that all twisted wire connections are insulated with properly installed wire nuts. Once all connections are completed, replace the wiring compartment cover and secure it with the screw removed earlier.

    • 7

Remove the front cover by undoing the securing screws along the bottom. Attach the heater to the two wall studs marked earlier. Use two of the mounting holes in the row of holes along the back of the heater, and the screws provided.

    • 8

Reattach the front cover and secure it with the screws removed earlier. Turn the breaker switch back on. Follow the operating instructions and test the heater to ensure that it’s working properly.
