Design the bar space as an L-shape counter. Plan to attach the short side to the interior wall and allow bar counter space to run parallel to the wall. Use the open end of the L-shape to walk behind the bar. Use graph paper to draw the wall framing in relation to the bar framework. Figure out the exact places on the wall to secure the bar framing to wall studs.
Use graph paper to draw the bar in detail. Plan the bar height at 42 inches with a 12-inch overhang for stools. Buy 2-by-6 pressure-treated boards to construct the cabinet framework of the bar. Cut the framing sections with a circular saw.
Nail a bottom plate around the bar base to floor joists, forming the base outline. Install 4-inch screws to secure the bottom plate to flooring. Build the cabinet base framework with side framing studs and a top plate -- mitering all joints and corners. Secure one short end of the L-shape to wall studs with bolts.
Cover the bar with ½-inch plywood. Glue wood veneer sheeting stained to your preference over the plywood. Nail crown molding at the floor level that is stained to match the veneer.
Build shelving inside the bar cabinet using leftover plywood sheets. Cover the shelves with wood veneer sheeting for a polished look.
Cut 1-inch oak plywood to form the bar top. Install ceramic tiles over the bar top in a color that blends with the bar base.
