How to Use Toggle Bolts for Base Kitchen Cabinets Into Drywall

You have a variety of options to choose from when you are deciding how to anchor your kitchen base cabinets. Toggle bolts are a good choice when you are attaching your base cabinets to drywall and can't connect with a wall stud, as they will hold your base cabinets securely in place. Fortunately, you can install toggle bolts yourself and save the expense of hiring a professional.

Instructions

    • 1

Slide the base cabinet into the desired place against the wall. Push the cabinet flush against the wall.

    • 2

Place a mark on the inside of the cabinet with the pencil to indicate where the toggle bolt will be placed. Mark the location for all of the toggle bolts.

    • 3

Place a drill bit in the electric drill, and tighten the chuck. Follow the procedures outlined in the drill's owner's manual for installing a drill bit. The size of the drill bit you need depends on the size of the toggle bolt used. Use the exact size bit recommended by the toggle bolt's manufacturer.

Place the drill on one of the pencil marks. Hold the drill straight and level. Depress the trigger while gently pushing on the drill to penetrate through the cabinet and the drywall.

Push a toggle bolt through the hole in the cabinet. The expanding part of the bolt must go into the hole. Tighten the toggle bolt with the screwdriver. Turn the bolt in the clockwise direction until the bolt firmly holds the cabinet to the wall. Repeat this process for the rest of the toggle bolts.
