How to Hang a Chandelier Using a Hickey

If a chandelier's nipple is not the same size as that of the fixture box, use a a hickey instead. A hickey is a fastener that has male adapter ends on both sides. There is a gap between the top and the bottom of the hickey so that you can slip wiring through. Nipples are double-sided female adapters featuring threaded halves that run in opposite directions. The hickey will allow the fixture box's nipple to meet with the nipple of a chandelier hook or collar.
