Framing a house is about 35 to 40 percent of the entire project. The average 1,800-square-foot home will take about three weeks to frame, depending on the number of workers employed on the job or how complex the design of the home might be.
The framing of a house begins with the foundation, which may be raised or slab. Additionally, wall framing and floor framing comprise part of the overall structure. Some walls may be load bearing, which means they fill an important function by supporting the building. Non load-bearing walls often act to separate spaces or rooms.
A framing job must be accurate. If it is not, the rest of the project -- from walls to flooring to installing doors -- will not be completed correctly. Building codes, based on engineering principles, are strictly enforced, in part to ensure this accuracy.
