How to Calculate PVC of Coating

Polyvinyl chloride, commonly abbreviated PVC, is a thermoplastic polymer used in the production of various types of plastic such as pipes, signs, and electric wires. Measuring the thickness of the PVC coating can help to minimize waste from over-coating, and eliminates the need to repair various plastics as a result of taking improper thickness measurements.

Instructions

    • 1

Apply a small amount of couplant to the area that is being measured. Use water for smooth coatings and glycol gel for rougher surfaces.

    • 2

Place the probe of your measuring tool flat on the plastic's surface.

    • 3

Press and hold the probe firmly against the surface to generate a measurement.

    • 4

Lift the probe from the plastic's surface when a double beep is heard. After the green indicator light stops blinking, you can check your measurement on the probe's LCD.

    • 5

When finished, make sure to clean the probe and the plastic's surface with a soft cloth.
