How to Use an HF Tube Bender

Harbor Freight makes a whole range of tools, from small hand tools to large electric and hydraulic machines. HF makes a pipe bender that allows various sizes of pipe to be bent up to angles of up to 90 degrees. This allows a range of construction projects to be undertaken. The pipe bender machine can be operated with minimum difficulty and little training.

Take the pins out of the roller bars, slide them out of their holes and remove the rollers. Position the unit on solid, level ground. Select a bending die that corresponds to the size of pipe you are bending and fit it onto the top of the bottle jack. Position the pipe against the die at the point you want to bend it.

Slide the roller bars into the holes in the side of the pipe bender so the rollers are touching the top of the pipe. Remove the pipe and slide the roller bars almost out. Position the rollers between the holes where the roller bars were and slide the roller bars back through the holes and rollers. Put the pins back in place to lock them in position.

Slide the pipe in between the rollers and the die. Use the slotted end of the handle to turn the release valve at the base of the bottle jack clockwise until tight. Insert the nonslotted end of the handle into the sleeve beside the jack and pump up and down until the pipe is bent to the desired angle.

Fit the slotted end of the handle over the release valve again. Gently turn counterclockwise up to one full turn until the pressure on the pipe is released. Carefully remove the pipe from the machine.
