Window wells are vulnerable parts of a house's foundation waterproofing system. Water and snow can collect and seep toward the foundation instead of away from it, resulting in deteriorating concrete and a wet basement. A drain can be installed for the window well that connects to the foundation drain tile system; the pipe can then be accessed from the window well for cleaning. Window-well drains are supplementary measures; the window well should be constructed properly, with clean gravel fill and appropriately sloped surface grading that directs water away from the house and window wells.
