Measure the area of each wall that you need to cover using a tape measure. Multiply the wall’s length and width measurements for the total wall area. Find the sum of all wall areas to determine how many square feet of plastic sheeting you need to seal the sheathing.
Apply the plastic sheets to the walls in horizontal rows, beginning at the bottom of the wall. Allow edge of the sheet to overlap the edge of the wall by 5-inches and nail the upper-left corner in place, so that the bottom of the sheet is flush with the ground. Unroll the plastic along the base of the wall, placing a nail through the sheet and into the wall sheathing every 8-inches until you reach the end. Cut the plastic with a utility knife.
Place additional rows of nails into the plastic in rows every 24-inches to the base of the plastic.
Position the second row of plastic sheeting at the starting edge again, so that it overlaps the first row of sheeting by 4-inches. Repeat the process of nailing it to the wall, starting at the bottom and working your way up until you reach the roofline.
Overlap all window and door openings with the initial sheet placement. After you complete the placement, then slice an X over the openings in the wall and fold the plastic over the edges. Hammer nails into the openings to hold the plastic in place, but do not place any nails within 4-inches of the top of each opening. Cut off excess plastic sheeting inside the structure with a utility knife after wrapping it around the edges of each opening.
Tape all seams between two pieces of the plastic sheets with the adhesive tape supplied by the plastic sheeting manufacturer.
Install the sheeting onto the remaining sheathing surfaces before you begin placing the thin brick.
